Main content start

Stanford Introductory Studies provides an enhanced level of academic technology collaboration opportunities and support from a dedicated Academic Technology Specialist, Tech Coordinator Fellows in COLLEGE, and trained student workers.

Contact the SIS Academic Technology Specialist, Hollie Fortkamp, to get started: hollief@stanford.edu

For Instructors in SIS Programs

  • Consultations: Walk through how to set up an effective Canvas course, chat about a potential audio-visual assignment, or brainstorm solutions to common classroom issues.
  • In-Class Workshops: The ATS can join your class and teach students a technical tool, as well as providing tech instructions and fielding student questions. (Two weeks notice requested.)
  • Equipment: SIS maintains a loan pool of teaching and multi-media equipment as an extra resource specifically for instructors in SIS programs.
  • Digital Projects Exhibit Space: Celebrate and save exceptional student work by nominating students for the COLLEGE Creative Project Award or sharing IntroSems work in the IntroSems project gallery (see the end-of-quarter program email for more info).
  • Student Tech Experts: The Course Development Assistance Plus program pairs you with a student trained in academic technology and pedagogy. More information on the IntroSems website. (CDA+ students can also work on COLLEGE courses.)

For Teaching Fellows in COLLEGE

In addition to the support offered to all instructors, access to the equipment pool, Canvas training, etc. we offer:

  • Professional Development: Teaching Fellows in COLLEGE can learn more about academic technology through paid and volunteer professional development opportunities, such as the Tech Coordinator role. We also offer one-on-one and group workshops on professional websites, digital identity, etc.

For Undergraduates

  • Job Opportunities: We offer regular positions as Academic Technology Student Workers and Course Development Assistant Plus (CDA+) roles, offering you the opportunity to build your technical skills, connect with our faculty, and help with undergraduate teaching at Stanford. Opportunities posted in Handshake.
